When considering the installation of cable railings for your building, there are important factors to keep in mind. Firstly, determine whether the railing will be installed indoors or outdoors, as the environmental conditions in each setting greatly influence the choice of post material for the cable railing. Additionally, selecting the appropriate fasteners for the wire is crucial.

In steel cable railings, stainless steel cables replace traditional railings. If you want unobtrusive railings that are easy to keep clean and let the breeze through, this is the option you’re looking for. You should also choose a vertical, rather than a horizontal, cable system, especially if you have children or pets, as the vertical design prevents climbing onto the rail.

While stainless steel is fairly resistant to corrosion, it still needs to be cleaned regularly to prevent salt buildup if used on a beachside deck. Allowing salt to sit on the surface of steel can cause premature corrosion. The cable is made of 316 Marine grade stainless steel with good corrosion resistance. That means it will last longer than 304 or 305 stainless steel, but not forever. The design of the product also affects this. Smooth surfaces don’t allow the salt to accumulate easily, but since the cables are cracked, you’ll want to wipe down the railing cables every once in a while.
